Why Soy instead of Parrafin wax?

Here at Sorella, we strive to be as environmentally friendly as we possibly can. This is across the whole company, from our packaging material right across to our signature candles and wax melts.

Our aim is to ensure that everything that we use and produce is biodegradable, vegan and especially pet friendly, as that is something very close to our hearts.

There was a period of time where we spent hours and hours right at the beginning of our journey researching what products best suited the brand that we were wanting to build. After a lengthy discussion we had come to the decision that soy wax matches our brand perfectly.

We had picked soy as it made much more sense for us, this is because it stems from the soybean, a plant... This means that it is 100% biodegradable, it is vegan friendly and is grown without the use of pesticides and herbicides, making it eco friendly, one of our main priorities.

This drew us further into soy wax and steered us away from the likes of paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is distilled from petroleum, meaning that when a candle is crafted with this type of wax, it releases dangerous chemicals into the air such as carcinogenic benzene and toluene, these have been linked to cause lung disease and other illnesses. Meanwhile soy wax is non toxic, it burns cleaner and is known to produce 90% less soot than paraffin, hence why it was the perfect and most obvious choice for our brand.
